Satarah

Ever since I wrote the Madonna post last Monday, the name Satarah (Esther from the Persian name Satarah, meaning “star”) had been bugging me. I know I have heard it before……

Now I remember. It was the name the pirate/smuggler Jacopo gave Edmond Dantes when the latter joined him and his team after Edmond’s escape from Chateau D’If. When asked what the name Satarah stands for, Jacopo said…”driftwood”. I don’t know if that is indeed true – the name’s translation i mean. (The movie The Count of Monte Cristo is currently being played in StarMovies).

In the
literature however by A. Dumas, the smugglers called Edmond “Maltese”.
