Finally! I was able to catch the re-runs of The Apprentice in Star World last night. They are already starting Season Two and I haven’t even seen an episode of the first season yet! Although I know that Bill defeated Kwame (poor lad, his last dossier is to supervise the Jessica Simpson Concert in one of Trump’s casino…hahaha!) already, I still want to see how the “job interviews”, the business cases and the boardroom drama (“You’re Fired!”) were done for the past 13 weeks.
The first two episodes were quite amusing. The business tasks were (1) selling lemonade and (2) coming up with a campaign ad for a prepaid luxury jet card. And for both tasks, the women defeated the men! In fairness, their business strategy and decisions were better than the latter for the first two business cases. They were able to think out of the box, picked good locations and dealt directly with the upperlings. They really deserve to outshine the men and win those tests.
But oh well, in the end, a man still bagged the "dream job of a lifetime", a President position in one of Donald Trump’s corporation, with all the perks.
Which made me contemplate, will that be a dream job for me too? A high power position in the corporate ladder, where people are at your beck and call, where your means of transportation to and from the office is a helicopter and where you go home to a posh loft with gold faucets and doors? Nah… I have been a slave of the corporate world for almost eight years now and I am certain if given the choice, I would rather pursue something else. Well, luckily I found the profession and organization where I am most happy given the circumstances. But still, there is that longing inside me to get out of this corporate realm and do something more meaningful to me, something I can really be passionate about. So the brutal truth my friends, is right now, I’m just working for the money.
If I am not bound by financial constraints and is gifted with the essential talent for it, my dream profession would be as a:
1. ROCKSTAR! – this is the ultimate career I can only dream of! I get to create and play good music and earn BIG bucks for just doing what I love! Do world tours with my rockstar (as well!) hubby and inspire other people. How great can life be?...but of course, I can only say to myself…dream on emi!
2. TRAVEL JOURNALIST – get paid for traveling around the world and sharing my travel experiences and discoveries with other people.
3. FILMMAKER – not the commercial one though. I would rather focus on the unobtrusive way of capturing moments as they happen. Unscripted. Independent.
4. BOOKSTORE OWNER – this is closer to reality I guess. Someday, I just plan to have my own bookstore, read books all day, read books to kids and interact and share thoughts with my customers.
I have this goal of retiring from the corporate world by the age of 35. Who knows, I still might be able to pursue my dreams afterall...
