Singapore Lah! (part 1)

This is an overdue entry. But posting my travel journal notes is necessary so that moving forward, every time a friend will ask me how was my first time in the Lion City, I don’t need to relive every experience (over and over again) but can simply exclaim, check out my blog for more details! (which will not only translates to minimized discourse effort and chika time savings but more hits for my site as well!) *wink!* So here goes...

Saturday, January 22
12:30 pm.
Whew. No wonder check-in time for international flights is at least two and a half hours before time of departure, especially if you are flying out from the old NAIA airport! I just passed check-in and immigration, queuing for an hour! Good thing I brought the stroller for my laptop instead of the burdensome shoulder bag.

This is the first time I will be living home (and Riki) for a full week. Most of my past travels only lasted the weekends. Although I am excited with this trip since it will be my first time in Singapore (yes, I know, I’m 30 and this will just be my first time to see the Merlion!), the sadness of leaving my loving hubby is overpowering. If only he can come with me! Hikbi...

6:00 pm. After a turbulent three and a half hour flight, I touched ground on the famous clean city! I am already physically drained. I wasn’t able to eat the meal served during the flight – I chose the chicken variant and ewww, it taste bad! Good thing my good friend Lisa is picking me up at the airport. She tipped me that calling any SG local lines (yes, even mobile phones) can be done free at any public phone located before the baggage claim area. This airport is so cool! Although HK International Airport is still prettier for me.

7:30 pm. Funan the IT Mall will close in thirty minutes! Good thing I already did my research before I went here, so I knew exactly what I want to buy – a Canon digital IXUS 500. My friend Lisa and I checked out only two stores before closing a deal with the latter. I got it for PHP 7k less than the SRP in the Phils! Plus, there were a lot of freebies we were able to extract from the vendor (aside from the Free Canon 7-in-1 bag with cleaning kit and small tripod + a CF256 memory card from Canon itself!) – I got another free CF128 memory card, extra battery and a leather case! I think it was a good deal. Finally, I now have my own digicam – where style meets substance. Oh Singa Pura, get ready to be captured!

The first night I stayed at Lisa’s place at Ang Mo Kio. The minute I hit the bed, Emi out! (but of course, that is after I called my beybi first to say “Good night! Sleep Tight! Don’t let the bed bugs bite!”

Sunday, January 23
11:10 am. After attending mass at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Lisa and I proceeded to my current favorite store in the whole wide world. IKEA!!! The outlet here in SG is definitely bigger and better than the one in Mongkok, HK. More showrooms and more stocks! Heaven, heaven, heaven! And of course, I got to finally try the ever-famous meatballs in the IKEA CafĂ©. Yum yum indeed! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to taste the Buffalo Wings, since I now puke everytime I eat chicken (details of this disorder on a separate post).

After a blissful four hours of shopping at the store, I left IKEA with a heavy heart. So many things to see, so little time! Dang.

My Favorite Store
6:00 pm. After a quick check-in in my hotel along Orchard Road, Lisa brought me to spots in Raffles and City Hall. The MRT system here is so nice! Our own MRT will pale (and shrink) in comparison. Although I noticed something. The air inside the train has a “distinct” smell. Hehehe! But still, it’s way too cool!

Here are some of the spots we’ve checked out that night!

The grand Raffles Hotel

The Awesome Chijmes Hall

The Mighty Merlion!

11:54 pm. Sleepless in Singapore. Mute. Sound on. Change channel from CNN to Music Channel. Mute. Turn on hallway light. Turn TV off. My feet hurt. I’m so tired. Turn bedside lamp on. Turn TV on. Sleep Emi sleep! Change channel. Mute. Turn off hallway light. Still wide awake.

I never really like sleeping in a hotel room alone. No matter how much I tire myself, I still have trouble dozing off. This will be a very long week.
...to be continued!
