Is This Goodbye?

Warning: If you haven’t finished reading the 7th Harry Potter book yet and would not like a spoiler, don’t read the rest of this entry.

Book 7 was finally released here in the US at exactly 12:01 am of July 21. And yes, I joined all HP fans globally who lined up outside bookstores hours before the midnight release, eager to get a copy of the much-awaited final installment ASAP! Who can sleep during that Friday night anyway?

I got my book by 12:28 am. I have made reservations months before so I was given priority over the Muggles in the queue. I came with two, who were at the very end of the line. Tsk, tsk.

At exactly 1:09 am, I finally joined Harry, together with Ron and Hermione, in their quest to find the Horcruxes.

For the next thirty-eight hours (inclusive of quick bites, sleep and trip to the john/grocery), I devoured all the magical details, and by the epilogue, was enveloped with sadness of saying goodbye to all my beloved witches and wizard. I want more!!!!!!!!!

So how did I do with regards to my assumptions? Let’s check:

1. Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape executed an Unbreakable Vow ahead of Snape and Narcissa Malfoy. Thus, the one done by the latter was not valid. --- They didn’t do an Unbreakable Vow, but they did have something more powerful than that, an allegiance to each other.

2. Snape is thus still loyal to the Order! He will redeem himself in the last book. --- YES! SNAPE was loyal to Dumbledore all along. More than loyal actually, everything he did was for his great love for Harry’s mother, Lily Evans. Talk about total redemption.

3. If in the case that I am wrong, I hope he pays for this crime with his own life! --- Snape did die. Voldemort killed him, for the wrong reasons. :(

4. Dumbledore is still alive. Either that or he will resurrect from the dead, just like Gandalf. This time he will be wearing an all white cloak already. Alright, this one’s beyond stretching already. Haha! --- As I said, this is indeed wishful thinking. Nevertheless, his legacy will continue in Harry’s life. He named his youngest son Albus Severus.

5. A big part of me wants Harry to die fighting Voldemort. Otherwise, it would be very difficult for me to let go!!! I will want more volumes of how he will live his life after Hogswarts. Will he become an Auror? Will he marry Ginny? --- He was always the “Boy Who Lived”. Go Figure. And yes, he married Ginny and produced little Potters. What they did professionally after Hogwarts, JK did not say. Hmmm... will there be a book 8?

6. More focus on the growing romance between Ron and Hermione in Book 7. --- Finally! A kissing scene for my two favorite characters! Kilig! They do end up together as well, and had two kids. :D

7. Who is R.A.B?!?!?!?! Can he be Snape? -- It was Sirius bro, Regulus Black.
JK, thank you for telling the world this wonderful tale. Please! Continue the magic. :)

Hello,

Great book but one thing's bothering me.

If the Elder Wand belonged to Malfoy(after Dumbledore was disarmed) and Harry took it from him by beating him in battle. How come it did not become Voldemort's when he Defeated Harry in the woods. This would make the whole end of the book incorrect? As the spell would not have backfired on Voltemor and Harry would have died instead?

This would make for a pretty sad ending.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for dropping by my site. Let me try to answer your question. :) Voldemort took the wand from Albus tomb. For him to be the new master of the wand, he should have taken it from Malfoy himself. The wand Harry took from Malfoy was not the Elder Wand but the former's own.

I guess we are all suckers for happy ending.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For this post, Emi! Ay naku, I've been asking (begging!) people to tell me what happened in this book! You see, I don't read HP (yes, I know, this may be outrageous for you, but I really don't.) I just watch it. My hubby hasn't started on his copy (unlike you, he starts waaaay behind everyone else). The others naman, are torturing me by telling me to wait for the movie! Hello?! Kelan pa yun?! Kaya, super thank you! At least alam ko na kung sino ang namatay. It IS really a children's book afterall.

Now, I can go spoil it for my hubby. Mwahahaha!
