The Things You Do When You're Alone

Riki left for China today (huhuhu!) to attend the famous (96th) Canton Fair, another effort to expand his business horizon. Isn’t it oxymoronic? I am the business graduate but my engineer husband has the entrepreneurship spirit and I, on the other hand, am the one fascinated with systems and structures.

Anyways, that is not the subject of this blog. This is about my own version of Extra Challenge – how to survive without Riki for four (looonnnnggggg) days. Since we got married last year, this is the first time that I will be left home alone for more than twenty four hours. Oh well, we have already been away from each other for four days as well last July when I joined my shopping friends in Hongkong, but of course, that is a different story. Hehehe…

I realized, instead of sulking and pathetically waiting for Sunday night to come, I can just turn this solitude woe to freedom opportunity. You see, I just attended a Project Development and Execution Process Workshop where we focused on turning opportunities to successful projects with proper planning and great execution.

Besides, for lack of a better thing to do tonight, I better start applying the theories I just learned early today. So here goes:

STAGE (day) ONE:
I have already established the “business case” above, so next step is to formulate the frame:
Opportunity Statement:
To be able to enjoy the weekend alone, have the chance to relax and be productive, and be genuinely happy.
Stakeholders:
Moi
Riki
Family and/or friends
Success Vision:
Survive the weekend without feeling lonely.
Critical Success Factors:
Productivity
Happiness
Independence
Success Metrics:
No crying/whimpering
No unproductive moments
No calling Mommy for help and company

STAGE (day) TWO:
Subsequent to the establishment of the target goal is the identification of possible alternatives to achieve the former. I have the following options:

1. DOMESTIC DIVA – resume my clutter-clearing and scrap booking projects
2. SHOPAHOLIC– go out and do some retail therapy
3. PAMPER GAL – my hair, nails and whole body are screaming violently: SPA! SPA! SPA!
4. THE GOOD DAUGHTER– go home and spend the weekend with my family
5. KIKAY – do item 2 and/or 3 with my kikay friends

Whether to pursue one of the following, a combination of them or all-of-the-above will depend on the next task at hand - SWOT Analysis - which is critical for my decision making necessary to proceed to the last three phases, details of which will be on my next entry.

I’m tired already. Time to sleep. On our now awfully big and cold bed. :(
