First day of the year. This is always the time when most of us want to have a fresh start, to promise oneself a better life, to turn a new leaf. Everyone want (and resolve) to be a better person comes the new year. Or rather, everyone who can (still) afford to make that resolution.
The year 2004 had left us all rather low, with all the lives lost, reclaimed by Mother Nature throughout the year, most especially during the last month. Many nations, rather than welcome the new year with a bang, are deep in grief and mourning.
Personally, 2004 was a GREAT YEAR for me. It was 365 blissful days with my husband and I couldn't be more grateful to God. We lived comfortably, we are both of good health and we at times have more than what we need, enabling us to share our blessings.
Sadly, not everyone is that fortunate. Not everyone has still their loved ones to share life's highs and lows with . Not everyone can still afford to make new resolutions for the new year. They have more pressing matters to think about today.
Today, i got to reflect on the importance of LIFE. It doesn't matter if it is the start of the new year, or the end of the third month, as long as I still have TODAY (and the prospect of a TOMORROW) to live my life with my loved ones, that is a huge blessing which I will cherish and utilize to start afresh everytime, to correct my wrongdoings of the past day/s. As long as i have my family and friends intact, i can withstand all trials and challenges.
I will not wait till mother's day to tell and show my mother i love her, i will not miss eating dinner at the dining table with Riki anymore just for my favorite television series, i will not dwell on the regrets and illwills of life's drama, rather just count (and savor) my blessings in life.
I will live for today and be thankful for it.
As the genius Jonathan Larson so aptly puts it,
"There's only us, there's only this
Forget regret, or life is yours to miss
No other road, no other way
No day but today."
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! :D
