The only way to effectively end this stressful week and enjoy the next two (free) days is to ask for Divine Intervention. It is First Friday today. So I attended mass here in the office this afternoon.
The Gospel and the homily centered on the conversion from the “old wine” to the “new wine”, from “old garments” to “new garments”, from “Judaic ways” to “Jesus’ ways”. The priest (who by the way is an Indian-looking guy with the “movies! dvd!” accent but whose last name is Fernandez!) explained that the difference between the old Judaic ways and the new way as introduced by Jesus is that the former focused on personal efforts alone while the latter combines personal efforts and God’s blessings. If in the first instance, you commit a sin and was sorry, that’s the end of it. But in the latter instance, if you commit a sin and ask for forgiveness, you are forgiven and blest by God. Therefore, in the latter, you elevate to a higher and better position than your current state. There is advancement. There is redemption.
Contemplating on this homily as shared by this gentle man of God, I realized that what transpired this week is like the conversion to the better way of Jesus. We failed our SOX Compliance Readiness Test. We acknowledged our gaps and where we did wrong. But it didn’t stop there! (because we are not in the Judaic period anymore!). Since this is just a readiness test (an initiative by the organization to enable us to repair any steps we missed before) management is giving us the chance to remediate those gaps and pass the next audit round, to finally prepare us for the BIG AUDIT by the external auditors on the last quarter of the current year! There is still the hope of redemption! Personal efforts coupled with God’s blessings!!
I think I really should get out of the office now!
Thank you God for this (fri)day. And thank you for easing my burden and giving me enlightenment.
